Activities performed during the visit
A One-day field visit will be organised for Civil Students (Including II Semester of Civil) of ASET to study the various activities at construction sites related to Civil Engineering under Institution's Innovation Council 5.0, Quater-3 Activities on 04th April 2023. Students from First year, Second year, Third year and Final year Civil Engineering were taken to the Construction site for observing and understanding the Construction practices on the site for minimizing the gap between construction practices and Academics for the Students. This visit has scheduled between 10:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students were allowed to observe the functioning of each construction activity and their queries were also answered by the site engineer during the visit.
During the site visit, Students have been observed the construction of Ground beams, Plinth beams, Column Casting work, Plinth Filling, Anti-Termite Treatment, placing of Reinforcement for slab and stair case, erection of shuttering and scaffolding works etc.
Following Technical Details were taught by Mr. Vinod, Project Engineer.
STARTER: Starter is a small piece of column which is cast before the whole column is cast. It is sturdier to fix the column shuttering if the starter is already in place. The chances of column form work becoming skew are eliminated.
FORMWORK: On site wooden formwork was used having thickness 25mm. Shikanja was used for holding the formwork in required dimensions. Steel props are used to hold the column in vertical position.
REINFORCEMENT: For the construction of column reinforcement Fe500 is used.
BRICKWORK : Flemish bond was used in brick masonry work. & Sill height was 0.9m. Precautions taken on site are as follows: Bricks were submerged in water before use. Field test are carried out on bricks before used for construction of brick masonry to check. quality of bricks.
CONCRETE: M25 Grade of Concrete was used in construction site. M25 concrete ratio is 1:1:2, which indicates the ratio of cement:sand: aggregate. It simply means that if 1 kg cement is used for making Concrete, you should use 1 kg sand and 2 kg aggregate. (i.e. 1 part cement: 1 part sand: 2 parts aggregate)
Furthermore we have learnt many things by identifying different types of construction materials and their uses, and also learning a lot about construction process and methods that are used in our state, plus by talking and asking questions from the construction team who were guiding us at the site.
Ultimately, site visits not only allow us to gain more technical and practical knowledge about materials and construction processes, but also offer opportunities to build valuable life skills that we can apply in our daily lives. Nonetheless, all these learning opportunities are only as much as we make of them. By paying more attention to the processes and complexities at a site visit, we might make our experience much more interesting and meaningful than it appears to be.

Outcome of the visit
The Students of Department of Civil Engineering, ASET, AUMP has learnt the various activity involved and got information and knowledge from Aahluwalia Construction India limited.
• Students understood the functioning of reinforced concrete slab and various RCC members.
• Students understood the detailing of reinforcement in slabs.
• Students understood how the detailing of RCC building has been done as per the IS code and what are the measure consequences at construction site while doing the site work.
• This site visit gave them a chance to experience and learn what cannot be gained during lectures or tutorials. One of the first things that we have learnt is understanding the importance of safety which is a basic of construction, because of all dangers exist on site.
