11th March 2021: Amity School of Communication (ASCO) and Amity Film School (AFS), Mumbai organised a webinar on “Synchronizing Sound in Cinema” by Industry Expert Mr. Puneet Samtani, an Indian Music Producer and Sound Engineer. Around 300 media students across various academic institutions in India attended the webinar.
Mr. Samtani gave an insight about the world of sound. He guided the students on the technical know-how and the aesthetical value of sound in cinema. He explained about different departments under sound design, their work profiles and responsibilities. He also gave an input regarding technical aspects of sound used in various OTT platforms. The speaker emphasized the role of a sound engineer in creating music for films and albums. “You cannot be a good Acoustic Engineer unless you are a good engineer” said Mr. Samtani while elaborating on the significance of sound in cinema.
The webinar began with a welcome address by Dr. Nima John, Officiating Head of the Institution, Amity School of Communication, Amity University Mumbai. The session was moderated by Mr. Ritabrata Mitra, Assistant Professor at Amity Film School. The programme got an overwhelming response from budding media students and educators.
About the Speaker
Mr. Puneet Samtani is a recording engineer for Oscar Winning Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours. He has also worked in several mainstream feature films like Ishaqzade, Rockstar, Shaitan, No one killed Jessica, Delhi 6, Bhool Bhulaiya and television commercials like Uber, Tinder, and Skoda. He has worked alongside eminent maestros like AR Rahman and Ustad Zakir Hussain.
