Prof. (Dr.) D. Subhakar

Vice Chancellor

Dr. D. Subhakar is a distinguished and highly accomplished academician and researcher with nearly 40 years of rich and varied experience in academia and government. He holds a Ph.D. in Renewable Energy from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras; a master’s degree in Energy Technology from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand; and a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from TNAU.

Dr. Subhakar played a vital role in leading and obtaining research grants and funded projects during his tenure at CPRI and ANERT, Govt. of Kerala. At VIT University, Vellore, he served as a Division Leader, Dean of Academics, and Director of Software Development. He implemented the Fully Flexible Credit System and developed the Campus Management Software. He was the founding Vice Chancellor of VIT-AP University, Amaravathi, AP and subsequently served as the Vice Chancellor of Presidency University, Bengaluru.

As part of continuous improvement in providing quality education, Amity University Bengaluru offers a student-centric, flexible curriculum for all programs that caters to individual student interests, incorporates contemporary developments in the respective discipline, and prepares students for employment. Internships and capstone projects are part of the curriculum. The continuous assessment system adopted will ensure that student outcomes are really achieved through lectures, tutorials, hands-on lab sessions and projects. Project based learning introduced in select courses makes students practice what they learn in the theory class or labs in solving real-world problems. Students are introduced to the concept of innovation and do-it-yourself right from their first semester, enabling many to develop products and processes – a pipeline for starting their own startups. The Amity Incubation Innovator encourages those students to become successful entrepreneurs.

Soft skill courses are spread across the program duration to prepare students for placements. Life skill courses enable students to master the skills that are needed in everyday life. Students are exposed to co- and extra-curricular activities through clubs, societies and chapters which help them attain a rounded personality. Group participation, project management, planning, and communication skills are a few that are developed by making students conceive their own activities, plan, and execute them as part of credited and non-credited courses. MoU’s signed with foreign universities enable students to visit those universities and other Amity campuses abroad for higher education, research internships, semester exchange, summer programs, and short courses.

Our university has implemented digital governance that includes a range of services such as ERP, attendance management, LMS, handling of examinations and outcomes. The ERP system is designed to streamline administrative processes and improve communication between departments, while the attendance management system is designed to provide real-time attendance data for faculty, staff, and parents. We believe that these digital governance systems are essential for providing a seamless and efficient learning experience for our students.

In addition to the excellent campus buildings and academic pursuits, extra-curricular activities make up a valuable part of the overall university experience. Students have a wide range of leisure, sports, and cultural activities to get involved in; a few of them include Ami Fest (an inter-university management and technical fest), Talent Hunt, and Sangathan (an inter-Amity annual sports and cultural carnival). The sports facilities include tennis, padel tennis, and basketball courts and a multi-purpose indoor sports stadium. Students can explore a range of sporting activities on campus, such as badminton, basketball, volleyball, cricket, chess, carrom, football and tug-of-war. A full range of infrastructural facilities including a health centre, transportation, multi-cuisine food court, etc. are also made available. Student life at Amity is very vibrant and exciting.
