Overview - Amity Institute of Liberal Arts

Established in 2015, Amity Institute of Liberal Arts (AILA), firmly believes in giving liberty to students in exploring what they are good at and defining their subjects of study from a wide choice. It does not assume that each student comes ready with the self-knowledge of what they are good at; it enables them to look around. Students are taught to work with real world during both coursework and internships to make them ready to face the world confidently. The teaching-learning-evaluating methods are innovative to enable all round personality development rather than mere rote learning. The students would be trained to gain knowledge and analytical skills to understand the real implications of world events, policies and actions. They would also be made aware of the realities of the vulnerable sections of the society and make them committed to public welfare. The institute provides diverse opportunities for the students to engage in creative thinking, critical analysis, and hands on experience. The institute prepares students to pursue higher studies, take up rewarding jobs or become entrepreneurs.

The experiential learning methodology inspires students to deliberate, discuss, converse, contest, conceptualize, reinvent, transform and create systems for well being of human civilization. Discussion and debates include plural, different and multiple viewpoints, perspectives, ideas, concepts, interpretations and thought processes.

The Institute of Liberal Arts offers three courses: B.A. (Hons) in Liberal Arts, Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work. Just as B.A. is kept not only theoretically rigorous but also creative and hands-on, Social Work programs are grounded in not just social work theory and practice but also in detailed study of social science theories and policies. All bachelors programs have a component of rural exposure. The B.A. liberal arts students have an added benefit of getting a certificate in professional courses for starting a new venture.

The inter-disciplinary approach of academic programs encourages students to strive to build an inclusive, egalitarian and gender sensitive space, where human values are upheld and dissent thrive without inhibition. Students of Liberal Arts programs grow as socially responsible and empowered citizens through active learning as well as participation in co-curricular activities.

Mission

Our mission is to make a new definition of Liberal Arts where interdisciplinary studies thrive with hands on field experiences and a range of pedagogies. Create graduates with multiple skills and social responsibility.

Vision

Amity Institute of Liberal Arts strives to be a unique Institute that puts the student’s interest at the center and enables an educational program that makes their personality blossom without any inhibition or conventions.
