Overview - AIMT

Established in (2012-13) Amity Institute of Microbial Technology (AIMT) fosters research and development in Applied Microbiology and nurtures professional for relevant industries. To achieve this goal faculty is establishing collaborations and MoU with relevant industries and help students learning from real life situations. AIMT curriculum helps students to build a strong academic research foundation in various emerging areas of Biotechnology, thus preparing them to face industry challenges head-on.

The holistic and integrated programme in Microbial Technology provides quality education, imparts value education as well as instills best industry practices in students.In addition to the theory courses, the program places particular emphasis on practical training. The Postgraduate students orient themselves towards research in diverse areas of Microbial Technology through research projects. Students also participate in seminars to enhance their communication and comprehension skills.

Our valuable, comprehensive and vibrant Doctoral programin Applied Biotechnology and Applied Sciences help students in creating a strong academic research foundation in emerging and cutting-edge areas of Microbial Technology. Our students are actively engaged in various areas of research activities, including Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering, Immunology, Protein Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Transcription Control and Gene Regulation, Structural Biology and Bioinformatics, Molecular basis of human viral diseases, Molecular Cell Biology, Cancer Cell Biology and so on.

It has signed MoU with ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research), ICMR(Indian Council of Medical Research), CIMMYT (International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center), Genomics The institutes is conducting research projects and activities in collaboration with these organizations.

Biotechnology is the use of biological processes and components to provide useful products, services and tools for a variety of applications. It uses knowledge from a variety of disciplines such as molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology, chemical engineering and computing.

This course is designed to provide biotechnologists and non-biotechnologists with a basic understanding of the theory, principles, techniques and potential of this rapidly moving field. Topics covered include scientific principles, overview of tools (recombinant DNA, genomics and gene arrays, proteomics, bioinformatics, etc.), biopharmaceutical product development, biomanufacturing strategies (protein expression, fermentation, cell culture, downstream processing and purification), and types of products and their applications in medicine. The course format includes a combination of lecture with interactive group discussions.

This course will benefit:

  • A detailed technical understanding of the key advanced methods used in the contemporary biotechnology sector and fundamentals of the biotechnology industry.
  • An appreciation of how these techniques are applied both in biotechnology and in advanced research.
  • Acquired the knowledge to enable them to critically appraise new data arising from the use of these techniques and to interpret the implications of such data.
  • Developed an understanding of the commercial, financial and regulatory context in which the biotechnology sector operates.
  • Managers, group leaders, supervisors, scientists and technicians from R&D and manufacturing units in biotech organizations who need an integrated overview of the field.
  • Engineering, validation and quality control/quality assurance staff moving into the biotechnology field.

Many research proposals have also been submitted under big funding agencies such as UNESCO, SERB etc. Faculties are focused and keep themselves upto date with the new technologies associated with the subject. Each Faculty is having research scholars under their supervisions those are working on novel & innovative ideas.

Students are designed to face the real world challenges with high quality teaching learning activites, research participation alongwith value added courses; foreign language, communication skills, behavioral science, basket course and compulsory military training; placement orientation sessions, corporate interactions and outreach and community activities. Apart from this, students are having industrial exposure to the field by providing them the opportunities of research internships where they can have one to one interactions with the high knowledgeable professionals.
