Two-Day National Conference on ‘Cyber Crime and Women: Precautions and Strategies’ begins at Amity University, Kharora, 28th March. 2019: Amity Law School, Amity University Chhattisgarh, is organising a two-day National Conference on Cyber Crime and Women: Precautions and Strategies from 28th -29th March 2019 in association with National Commission for Women, Delhi.

The Conference aims to focus on how the cyber space is increasingly becoming volatile that is resulting in serious security concerns. It also highlights the misuse of the cyber space, how technology is the system of misuse of the cyber space. Women are the prime targets of violence both physical and psychological in the cyber space, and are often at the receiving end of rape threats, online trolling and bullying, blackmailing etc. The conference reflects upon the issues that remain unspoken and hence standing in 21st century, in a globalised world it is important to talk about issues moving beyond the normal. The conference aims to deliberate talks and recommendations on this urgent and timely issue of securing the virtual space for women at large. Given it’s interdisciplinary nature the conference will thematically explore the legal and policy framework to understand cyber crime and gender based violence, the sociological and the psychological contours of cyber threat, crime and possible remedies and the more nuanced technicalities of ethical hacking and phishing to understand why the cyber space is volatile and why women become the prime targets and what could be the possible remedial measures to prevent the same.

In the inaugural ceremony Mrs. Anjana Sinha, (IPS) Director, National Industrial Security Academy, Hyderabad was the key note speaker. She enlightened the  audience about  the preventive and precautionary measures of technology and asked the youngsters to be more vigilant while using internet.. Dr. J.S.Sodhi, senior member of Amity Education Group, in his engaging talk delved into the propensity of the criminal activities in the digital world, and highlighted the myth associated with the domain, “we are safe” but the reality speaks that the backdoor usage of the cyber space is making people vulnerable. The Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Pandey opined through his valuable words crafted a picture of virtual world where we spend our precious time unaware of the fact that technology is creative indeed but destructive too. It is our responsibility to make ourselves informed of the things going around and answer each time if something is questionable. Dr. S.C. Mukhopadhyay, Registrar gave the welcome address and the vote of thanks was given by convener of the conference Mr.Jelis Subhan.

The conference was attended by academicians, students and scholars from across the country, including Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jadavpur University, Banaras Hindu University, Hidyatullah National Law Universityamong others. The ensemble list of resource persons and panellists include Prof. Sabiha Hussain, Director, Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women’s Studies, Jamia Milla Islamia, Prof. Anindya Jyoti Majumdar, Professor, Department of International Relations, Jadavpur University, Dr. Tumpa Mukherjee, Head, Department of Sociology, Women’s Christian College, Dr. Atul Pandey, Chairperson, Rajiv Gandhi National Cyber Law Centre at NLIU, Bhopal, Prof. Prosenjit Gupta, Member, Academic Council, AUC, Mr. Anand Shankar Jha, AOR, Supreme Court of India, Senior Advocate Shri Anand Mohan Thakur, Cyber Cell experts etc. All the faculty members and students of the university were present during the event.
