Our lab’s research interest lies in understanding the global brain neural circuit dynamics in animal models of neurological and psychological disorders. Research is mainly focused on the direct quantification of the neurophysiological brain activity across neural networks that corresponds with different neurological and psychological states of the brain. Understanding neural circuit networks can confer risk of affective and neurological disorders i.e., depression, autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, anxiety-like disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, Schizophrenia, Alzheimer, and Parkinson's Disease. Our research findings identified and confirmed that repeated chronic stress can cause long-lasting depression-like behavior in animals which can be reversed using typical or atypical antidepressants. These research findings raise the hypothesis that neural circuit changes underlie stress regulatory deficit in chronic stress and pharmacological-induced stress models of psycho-affective disorders such as depression, bipolar, anxiety, and schizophrenia. The goal of our research is to decode the neural circuit dynamics of the brain and find the risk genes network involved in the regulation of neuropsychological functions. The main aim of the lab is to develop tools to find neuro-genomic networks for neuropsychiatric and neurological disorders.
