  • Research Interests
Role of BMP (Bone morphogenetic protein) signaling pathway in neurodevelopment and homeostasis. Model human diseases like epilepsy, colonic atresia, motoneuron impairment and pulmonary arterial hypertension in Drosophila and use NMJ (neuromuscular junction) as a model to investigate the molecular mechanism of those diseases. I will use CRISPR-Cas9 to edit the endogenous gene of interest and use histology along with cell culture to dissect the disease molecular mechanism. I will concentrate on high resolution imaging, EM, and scRNA seq for experimental execution.
The communication within the neural circuit differs remarkably with the strength of the synaptic connection. Presynaptic components are key regulators of neurotransmitter release that indicate neural plasticity and strength. The action potential is a decisive step in neurotransmission and muscle function. The active zone (AZ) is the central part of synaptic vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release. The proper assembly and organization of active zone proteins are pivotal for their accurate function. My interest is to map the protein complexes near the AZ.
Moreover, Drosophila provide a perfect platform to uncover the effect and molecular mechanism of Staphylococcal toxins on central nervous system (CNS). I am also interested to search secondary metabolites from Indian endogenous medicinal plants to overcome those staphylococcal toxins affects.
