Research Interests
Our research aims to decipher the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate brain development, neural stem cell function, and neurodegeneration. We investigate how disruptions in key signaling pathways, particularly Wnt signaling, contribute to dopaminergic neuron loss and impaired neurogenesis in neurodegenerative conditions. By integrating genetic and pharmacological approaches, we explore strategies to restore neuronal function and enhance brain repair.
In parallel, we study the genetic basis of neurodevelopmental disorders, focusing on how mutations in critical regulators of stem cell dynamics influence brain size, cortical organization, and neural circuit balance. Using advanced systems such as human stem cell–derived organoids and genetically engineered models, we examine how specific variants alter neurogenesis and contribute to conditions such as microcephaly and autism.
Our approach combines genome editing, high-resolution imaging, proteomics, RNA-sequencing, animal behavior and functional neuroscience techniques to uncover complex signaling networks. Through an interdisciplinary framework, we aim to bridge fundamental discoveries with translational applications, ultimately contributing to the development of targeted therapies for neurological disorders. Students in the lab gain hands-on experience with modern experimental approaches and are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, and actively participate in discovery-driven research.
