Architecture Thesis on Mixed Use Development of Land

This research aims to create an adaptable building product which, subject to the necessary planning and building requirements, contains flexibility to change uses; to design the building façade to express the building’s different functions and to enhance the character and diversity of the streetscape; the opportunity to offer ‘green developments’ that use environment-friendly efficient materials and designs; create interesting and vibrant streets through diversification of activities; to integrate different land uses and activities, making them readily accessible in one location; and create healthy dwelling, access to light and proper ventilation.
The research focuses on development that combines different uses of space; hence, bringing vitality to the city, adds life and safety to streets and opens up opportunities which can be readily accessed by more residents, workers, students and visitors. People who live and work in these constructs enjoy easy access to a wide range of amenities. For instance retail stores, restaurants, gas stations, offices, civic facilities, multifamily housing, parks and hiking and bike trails can be integrated into a mixed-use property use.
The research work listed provision of affordable housing; increased housing, employment, business and investment choice; more efficient use of land and reduced car dependency; more efficient use of public infrastructure; pathway friendly zones development and opportunity to incorporate new environmentally sensitive ‘green’ technologies as scope of work.
