The workshop on "Science Research and Innovation Protection" supported by DST PURSE and organized under the aegis of Amity Institute of Biotechnology address the critical issues surrounding the protection of intellectual property, data, and research findings in the field of science and innovation. It brought together professionals, researchers in the field of biotechnology to discuss strategies, challenges, and best practices in safeguarding scientific advancements and fostering the culture of innovation. Lectures during this workshop focused on-

·         Introduction to intellectual property and patents.

·         Basic and advanced patent search tools and strategies.

·         Effective Patent mining.

·         Hand-on-training for patent search.

·         Case studies and practical examples.

Workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Vinay Sharma, Director AIB, and Professor SL Kothari, President ASTIF by welcoming the invited guests and handing over a token of remembrance. Dr Pushpender Kumar Sharma Introduced the guests of honours and the dignitaries. In the first session the keynote speaker, Professor Kashmir Singh delivered an excellent lecture on ‘Empowering Viksit Bharat through unravelling the crucial role of IPRs’. He described various schemes of government of India to promote IPRs in India and briefly discussed the Indian IP framework and the legal process to file patents in India. Finally, he emphasized the need for commercialization of patents and how it is crucial for the goal of achieving India developed nation. Dr. Ravneet Kaur talked about the opportunities available to students in the field of intellectual property. She emphasized the huge requirement of high number of professionals in the industry and the recession proof nature of this industry. She described different professional roles like patent attorneys, patent agents, copyright consultants, technology transfer specialists, etc. and also described the requirements or qualifications to opt for these professions. Some of the jobs are only applicable to the students of legal profession while others are preferred for students of science and technology background. Finally, in the second session Dr, Nishi talked about the role of women in the fields of IPR. She highlighted the importance of protecting the ideas and innovations of women which are the grassroot innovators. She also discussed the opportunities available to women and several schemes of government to promote the role of women in the field of science, innovation and intellectual properties. The report of the workshop was presented by Dr. Akhilesh Kumar, and the event culminated with a vote of thanks by Dr. Naveen Malik.
