“WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATION”

 

Amity School of Applied Sciences organized an event to celebrate the World Environment Day on 5th June 2020 by conducting a quiz related to environment for students and two guest lectures.


The first lecture was delivered by Dr. Tariq Husain, Former Senior Principal Scientist, on topic “Concern for plant diversity, building inventorization, sustainable utilization and conservation”. He stated that biodiversity provides direct and indirect ecosystem services. About 23% of all known species on Earth are plants. Plants and their communities provide essential ecosystem services for the benefit of humans and the functioning of most terrestrial ecosystems depends on plants. India is one of the twelve-mega biodiversity countries of the world and one of the four in Asia. He told some interesting aspects of angiosperm diversity, centre of origin of crop plants.


The second lecture was delivered by Dr. Uma Shanker Singh, IFS, PhD, AIFC, Director & North India Head, Vanashakti, on topic “Status of Biodiversity in India”. It was a successful and informative event with good numbers of students was participated in the event. Prof. (Dr.) Asita Kulshreshtha (Head of the Institution), chaired the session. Dr. Upasana Yadav was the event coordinator.
