FDP in Brief
The Directorate of Research & Publication, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior organized a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Excellence in Higher Education” from 17th to 23rd July 2025. The FDP brought together esteemed scholars and administrators to deliberate on various pillars of higher education, including Indian Knowledge Systems, NEP 2020, research methodologies, IPR and technology transfer, governance, and academic administration. The program was attended by faculty members and research scholars from AUMP and other HEIs.
Day 01: 17th July 2025
The Inaugural Session began at 11:00 AM in Seminar Hall Block-D with the lighting of the lamp, Saraswati Vandana, and felicitation of the guests.
Welcome Address
Prof. (Dr.) R. S. Tomar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor extended a warm welcome to the guests, dignitaries and the participants. He highlighted the University's unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching and research. He emphasized that fostering a robust culture of Research and Development (R&D) is essential for academic innovation, faculty empowerment, and the overall intellectual advancement of the institution. He noted that R&D not only enhances the quality of education but also aligns academic output with national development goals.
He further underscored the pivotal role of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in reshaping the higher education ecosystem. He pointed out that NEP encourages interdisciplinary approaches, faculty autonomy, and the integration of research with pedagogy, thereby enabling faculty members to evolve as thought leaders and change agents.
Opening Remarks
Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior.
In his inaugural address, the Hon’ble Pro Chancellor emphasised the need for strengthening governance and academic leadership in higher education institutions to ensure efficiency, accountability, and long-term impact. He spoke passionately about the responsibility of educators and institutions to maintain sincerity not only towards the society they serve but also towards their own personal and professional integrity.
He highlighted that the core institutional goal is not merely to impart knowledge, but to create new knowledge, influence and uplift the surrounding community, and cultivate an environment
where students can achieve mental and physical well-being. He urged academic leaders to adopt a holistic vision where intellectual development, value-based education, and societal engagement go hand in hand. His address served as a call to action for faculty members to align personal growth with institutional excellence and national development.
Inaugural Address
Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Tomar, Vice-Chancellor, J C Bose University of Science and Technology, Faridabad, Haryana, delivered an inspiring keynote on the evolving landscape of higher education. He emphasised that institutions not only adapt to policy reforms such as NEP 2020 but also proactively drive change through research, technology, and faculty empowerment. In his address, he reflected on the role of higher education, where innovation, interdisciplinarity, and inclusivity are becoming central to academic and institutional success.
Session Highlights
Dr. Charu Lata (CSIR-NIScPR, New Delhi) introduced the Indian Knowledge System corpus, its validation, and communication. The session provided an insightful overview of the Indian Knowledge System corpus, highlighting the importance of its systematic documentation, scholarly validation, and dissemination across educational platforms.
Prof. (Dr.) Sharmistha Roychowdhury (Queens College, USA) reflected on debates and future paths of Indian Knowledge Systems. Grounded in rich historical evidence, the speaker reflected on the intellectual debates surrounding Indian Knowledge Systems and charted a forward-looking path for their integration into contemporary scholarship
Day 02: 18th July 2025
Session Highlights
Prof. (Dr.) P. K. Bajpai (VC, Jai Prakash University) gave an in-depth overview of NEP 2020 and its implications. He outlined the vision and structural shifts introduced under NEP 2020, emphasizing its implications for institutional governance, curriculum innovation, and enhanced learner engagement.
Prof. (Dr.) R. S. Tomar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior, highlighted benefits and challenges in integrating Indian Knowledge Systems with NEP. He reflected on the integration of Indian Knowledge Systems within the NEP 2020 framework, noting its potential to foster cultural rootedness and academic inclusivity, while also underlining the practical challenges in implementation and teacher training
Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior spoke on "Governance & Academic Administration at AUMP, focusing on policy leadership and academic excellence. The session emphasized the importance of holistic institutional governance that ensures overall management, fosters the educational development of both students and faculty, upholds discipline, and enhances productivity across academic and administrative domains.
Day 03: 21st July 2025
Theme: Research Methodology and Capacity Building
Session Highlights
Prof. (Dr.) Tushar Singh (BHU, Varanasi) gave insights on data preparation and screening techniques for statistical analysis. The speaker elaborated on the critical steps involved in data preparation and screening, highlighting their importance in conducting valid and meaningful statistical analysis in academic research
Prof. (Dr.) Manvinder Singh Pahwa (Dr. HSG Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar) led two consecutive sessions on qualitative and quantitative research methodology, addressing practical tools for data collection and interpretation. The session provided an in-depth understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodology, with a strong emphasis on practical tools and techniques for effective data collection, analysis, and interpretation in academic research.
Day 04: 22nd July 2025
Theme: IPR & Technology Transfer (Conducted by Amity Noida Team)
Session Highlights
Dr. Sudhir Kochhar (ICAR, New Delhi) explained the role of innovation, IPR, and commercial ethos in academia. The session highlighted the critical role of innovation, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), and a commercial ethos in academia, emphasizing how research outcomes can be protected, translated into practical applications, and contribute to institutional and national growth
Dr. Shikha Rastogi (CSIR-IPU) addressed IPRs and mechanisms of technology transfer. The session offered valuable insights into IPRs and the mechanisms of technology transfer, outlining the processes through which academic innovations can be legally protected, commercialized, and disseminated for broader societal and industrial benefit
Dr. Smita Sahu (Head, IPR, Amity Noida) discussed innovation capture strategies and IPR filing. The session focused on strategies for capturing innovations and navigating the process of IPR filing, highlighting institutional best practices for identifying, documenting, and protecting intellectual outputs generated through academic research
Dr. Meenakshi Kanojia (DITT, Amity Noida) gave an overview of technology transfer and commercialization essentials. The session provided a comprehensive overview of technology transfer and commercialization essentials, supplemented with selected success stories at Amity University, Noida that illustrated how academic innovations have been effectively translated into viable products and societal solutions.
Day 05: 23rd July 2025
Theme: Governance & Academic Administration
Session Highlights
Col. Arindam Dhar (Dy. Commander, 72 Infantry Brigade) presented a motivational and insightful lecture on “Operation Sindoor” and the Indian Army’s role. The session explored the ‘why’—its strategic significance in national security—and the ‘how’—the meticulous planning, execution, and coordination led by the Indian Army, offering valuable lessons in leadership, discipline, and crisis management applicable to academic and administrative environments
Prof. (Dr.) Venkatadri Marriboyina (SVKM’s NMIMS) discussed NBA standards and outcome-based education in the context of higher education quality benchmarks. The speaker provided an in-depth understanding of outcome-based education and NBA standards, highlighting how these frameworks serve as essential tools for maintaining and enhancing academic quality in higher education institutions.
Valedictory Session
Concluding Remarks: It was delivered by Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd.), AVSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior. He concluded his address by extending his blessings for the success of the FDP. He precisely emphasized the importance of holistic institutional governance that ensures effective overall management, promotes the educational development of both students and faculty, upholds discipline, monitors student attendance and academic performance, and enhances productivity across academic and administrative domains.
