“Purple Fair-2025”, for the empowerment of “Divyangjans”, organized at Amity

Amity Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences (AIRS)Amity University, Uttar Pradesh Noida, in collaboration with Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC), organized two-day ‘Purple Fair 2025’ on the theme ‘Hunar Se Atmanirbharta Tak: Divya Jan Divya Asha’, from 10th-11th September 2025.

 

The Fair is dedicated to fostering empowerment, economic inclusion and social participation of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), by bringing together “Divyangjan” entrepreneurs, NGOs, educational institutions and industry representatives, to collaborate, exchange, and inspire, on an inclusive platform. 

 

Inaugurating the Fair, Mr. Kumar Raju, Director Indian Sign language Research & training Centre(ISLRTC), averred, “Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC) plays a vital role in promoting and developing Indian Sign Language (ISL) for the hearing imapired community. The centre offers training programs for various groups, including government officials, teachers, professionals, and community leaders, to understand and use Indian Sign Language. Sign Language is an important tool which makes it easier for the hearing and speech impaired persons to communicate effectively. People should be more sensitive towards disabled persons, treat them at par with everyone and support them in every possible way.”

 

Ms. Manmeet Kaur Nanda, Additional Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), said, “DEPwD focuses on promoting the welfare and empowerment of people with disabilities, it extends all kinds of financial and other support services and schemes for people with disabilities, by promoting accessibility and inclusivity, advocating for the rights of people with disabilities and implement policies and programs for the empowerment of people with disabilities. Empowerment of such people is vital for the growth of the society, and they must be encouraged to become finically independent.”  

 

Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, stated, “The Purple Fair 2025 is a symbol of visionary outlook, under which persons with disabilities are given the opportunity to freely explore their creativity, and showcase their skills through their work.  Persons with disabilities must be included in the mainstream society and provided equal opportunities for becoming self-reliant. Their talent must be nurtured, and skills must be enhanced so that they can live a life of dignity, in the society.”

 

On this occasion, differently-abled children presented vibrant song and dance performances. During “Purple Fair”, stalls put up by “Divyangjans” showcasing different items such as food, handicrafts, jewellery, stationery, perfumes, etc., attracted a large number of visitors.
