“Designs should be resilient, adaptable and sustainable”, aver architects during “ARCHISPHERE’25” on the occasion of World Architecture Day, at Amity
Amity School of Architecture and Planning (ASAP) Amity University Noida, organised “ARCHISPHERE’25”, a one-day symposium for celebrating the 40th World Architecture Day and World Habitat Day 2025, on the themes “Design for Strength” for World Architecture Day 2025 and “Urban Crisis Response” for World Habitat Day 2025. The themes emphasized the important role of architects and planners in creating cities and buildings that are strong, sustainable, and endure urban challenges. To encourage participation by young students, around 150 schools participated in the Symposium, including Seth Anandram Jaipuria school, Greater Noida West, Jaypee Public School, Noida, Mahamaya Balika Inter College, Noida, and Amity International Schools, and many others.
Addressing the students during a Panel Discussion on the topic, “Architecture of Resilience – Response to Climate Risk, Ar. Ajit Pai, Chairman, Delhi Urban Art Commission, stated, “World Architecture Day 2025 is being celebrated today on the theme "Design for Strength", which emphasizes the importance of creating built environments that are resilient, adaptable, and sustainable, particularly in the face of urban crises and natural disasters. Buildings and urban systems should embody robustness, cultural sensitivity, and the capacity to support communities in harsh conditions, with the aim to protect and restore communities during crisis. Designing for strength includes the ability to repair, restore, and adapt the built environment using environment-friendly materials and methods.”
Ar. Ujan Ghosh, Architect & Urban Designer, Upal Ghosh Associates, New Delhi said, “The theme "Design for Strength" reinforces strength as a multi-dimensional initiative, encompassing cultural, ecological, technical, and social aspects. It urges architects to design environments that uphold social justice, withstand crisis, and integrate ecological, material, and social strategies that promote renewal, awareness and action towards creating more resilient and sustainable structures and buildings.”
Addressing the gathering during the Inaugural Session, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjeev Bansal Additional Pro Vice Chancellor Amity University Uttar Pradesh, emphasized on the significance of such events in architectural and planning fields, where industry connect plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between academics and industry.
Welcoming the guests, Prof. (Dr.) Devendra Pratap Singh, Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Planning & Design, Amity University, Noida, said, “The event will serve as a dynamic platform for dialogue between academia and industry, allowing students to gain valuable insights and practical exposure while supporting the growth of future-ready architects and planners.”
The Panel discussion on “Architecture of Resilience – Response to Climate Risk” focused on the role of architecture in addressing climate challenges, creating resilient cities, and integrating sustainable practices in the built environment and the esteemed panellists included Ar. Namit Jain (Director & Principal Architect, Square Design, Noida), Ar. Anurag Bajpai (Director & Co-founder, GreenTree Global & Building GT Academy), and Dr. Shaleen Singhal (Professor & Director, Emerson CoE for Sustainability Studies, TERI SAS).
During the Symposium, an exhibition showcasing academic projects by students, across diverse domains such as healthcare, hospitality, aviation, city planning, governance, and sustainable design, was also organized. In addition, student competitions such as Spark Tank by the Sustainability Impact Club, Debate Competition by the Heritage Exploration Club, a Display Board Challenge, and a Photography Contest, were also held which provided the students with the opportunity to think critically, express their ideas creatively, and learn more about sustainability in architecture.
