The Student Welfare Department at AUJ, focuses on fostering holistic development of students, ensuring well-being, and enhancing campus life through a range of events & activities to help students engage with others and enhance their Amity experience & be part of AUJ. The department aims to create an inclusive & open University community that embraces a holistic, proactive & student centric focus on student wellbeing. The key functions of the Student Welfare Department at AUJ:
- Holistic Student Development: NCC
The SWD promotes a balanced approach to education, integrating academic learning with real-world experiences to develop critical thinking, leadership, and interpersonal skills. It encourages students to engage in a number of activities that build character, resilience, and teamwork, preparing them to become future leaders. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) wing is a youth development organization that aims to instill discipline, leadership, and patriotism among students. Cadets participate in social initiatives like blood donation camps, cleanliness drives (Swachh Bharat Abhiyan), disaster relief, and awareness campaigns on health and environment. Provides basic military training, including drill, weapon handling, map reading, and first aid, preparing cadets for potential roles in defense services.
- Support for Student Clubs and Societies:
The department facilitates the creation and management of student clubs to nurture talents and leadership skills. These clubs, such as the Taal Tarang Club, Book Club, Yodha Club, and Start opia club, provide platforms for students to explore interests, develop skills, and foster healthy competition. The SWD collaborates with these groups to organize social, academic, and non-academic workshops. “Amiphoria”is a 3-day annual fest of the University involving cultural activities and sports like Cricket, Basketball, Tennis etc culminating with performance by an artist of repute on the 3rd day where students can showcase their talent.
- AUJ Student Council (AUJSC):
The SWD oversees the AUJSC, the official student governing body, which ensures effective communication between students and the university administration. The council plans university events, recognizes official student groups, and appoints student representatives to governance boards and committees, promoting transparency, integrity, and student participation in university affairs.
- Campus Safety and Well-Being:
- The department contributes to maintaining a safe and healthy campus environment through collaboration with security and wellness services. This includes supporting the Wellness Centre (medical facility with 24/7 nursing, doctor, and ambulance services) and ensuring campus security with guards, and CCTV cameras, and safety programs like fire drills and whistle alerts.
- Student Services and Amenities: (Boys & Girls Hostel)
The SWD supports student services such as transportation (including weekend shuttles to local areas, dining facilities, and a convenience store (Tuck Shop) for daily needs. These services enhance accessibility and improve the overall student experience. The Hostel Committee of the University maintains proper record of the students by conducting periodic meetings to ensure that meals are hygienic and varied, hostel premises are well maintained with round-the-clock security.
- Event Planning and Community Engagement: NSS
The department collaborates with various university departments to organize social, cultural, and academic events, fostering a vibrant campus community. It supports student-led initiatives and ensures student voices are heard in university governance, encouraging civic engagement and cultural exposure. The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a voluntary public service program which engages students in community service to foster personal development and social responsibility. The motto “Not Me, But You” reflects its focus on selfless service. The NSS Awards recognize outstanding volunteers, Program Officers, and units for exemplary service.
- Grievance Redressal and Support:
The SWD provides mechanisms for students to address complaints, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently. Students can submit formal complaints through designated channels, with the option for anonymity, to maintain accountability and fairness. Our Anti Ragging committee is a structured committee with police and legal representatives, ensuring compliance with UGC guidelines. We conduct workshops, provide online undertakings, and share UGC documentaries to promote a ragging-free campus. We Hold executive meetings thrice yearly and follow a zero-tolerance policy, aligning with Supreme Court and UGC directives.
- Promoting Personal Growth and Self-Carethrough Centre for Students Happiness and Success:
The department encourages students to pursue hobbies, engage in physical wellness (e.g., through sports and yoga), and connect with nature to maintain personal well-being. It emphasizes self-care as a foundation for leadership and personal success.
University Discipline & Help Desk
University discipline policies typically address students conduct to maintain a safe and productive academic environment. These policies outline expected behaviors, define misconduct, and detail procedures for handling violations. Here’s a summary of key aspects:
- Student Conduct: Policies often cover academic misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, cheating) and non-academic misconduct (e.g., harassment, disruptive behavior, or substance abuse). The University emphasizes maintaining acceptable behavior in all settings, including online, and addresses issues like academic malpractice or harm to others. It allows informal resolutions or formal hearings for misconduct, with sanctions like warnings, suspension, or dismissal noted on transcripts and also evaluates misconduct reports to determine violations, with sanctions decided by a disciplinary committee.
