The Amity Institute of Pharmacy, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior, successfully organized community outreach program on Promoting Awareness about Water Borne Diseases and Distribution of Health Supplementson 28th April 2025 in association with NGO Ek Kadam Vikas Ki Aur Welfare Society, Agra, UP.
Dr. Naveen Sharma welcomed all dignitaries and briefed the villagers about the causes and symptoms of waterborne diseases, explaining how they can become dangerous to human beings, especially women and children. He strongly appealed to the villagers to maintain a healthy life by using pure water and avoiding contaminated sources. Dr. Bansal also provided brief information about the treatment of diarrhoea, cholera, and other waterborne diseases at the home level, as well as when to seek advice from doctors and get admitted to hospitals. As part of prevention measures, he urged the villagers to consume fruits, vegetables, and dairy products, and to take appropriate medicines when necessary to maintain a healthy life. The program supports Sustainability Development Goal 3-Good Health and Wellbeing. This program was also supported by IQAC AUMP and Institutions Innovative Council. The program also supports Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Mission.
In this program, oral rehydration salt (ORS) powder, fruits, and biscuits were distributed by the faculty members and the students. Mr. A.B. Nigam, Incharge of the Community Health Centre, provided exceptional support for conduction of this program.
The event was coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Naveen Sharma and Mr. Deepesh Parashar. It was organized by the Amity Institute of Pharmacy at Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior, under the leadership of Dr. Manoj Kumar Mishra, Director and Principal, and Dr. Mukesh Singh Sikarwar, Deputy Director, serving as the Convener and Co-convener respectively.
Aim: To improve the health and well-being of the Birja Village community at Gwalior by increasing awareness of waterborne diseases and providing essential health supplements.
Objectives:
1. To raise the level of understanding among residents of Birja Village regarding the causes, symptoms, prevention, and transmission of common waterborne diseases.
2. To encourage the adoption of safe hygiene and sanitation practices to minimize the risk of waterborne infections within the community.
3. To distribute appropriate health supplements to identified individuals or groups within Birja Village to address potential nutritional deficiencies.
4. To connect community members with the Primary Health Centre for further health-related information, consultations, and treatment options.
5. To actively involve community leaders and residents in the awareness campaign and distribution efforts to ensure sustainability and local ownership.
6. To evaluate the effectiveness of the awareness campaign and supplement distribution in terms of knowledge gained and supplement.
On April 28th, 2025, the Amity Institute of Pharmacy, Amity University Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior, in collaboration with the NGO Ek Kadam Vika Ki Aur Welfare Society, organized a community outreach program in Birja Village focused on "Promoting Awareness about Water Borne Diseases and Distribution of Health Supplements." Dr. Naveen Sharma educated villagers on the causes and dangers of waterborne diseases, particularly for women and children, emphasizing the importance of pure water and hygiene. Dr. Bansal provided information on home-level treatment for diseases like diarrhea and cholera, as well as when to seek professional medical help, also highlighting the role of fruits, vegetables, and supplements in maintaining health. The program included the distribution of ORS powder, fruits, and biscuits by faculty and students. Mr. A.B. Nigam from the Community Health Centre provided crucial support. The event was coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Naveen Sharma and Mr. Depeesh Parashar, and organized by the Amity Institute of Pharmacy, the event was convened by Dr. Manoj Kumar Mishra, Director and Principal, with Dr. Mukesh Singh Sikarwar, Deputy Director, serving as the Co-Convener. The event helped participants build confidence in navigating the legal and commercial aspects of intellectual property.
