Aim & Objective of the Program
|
AIM
This lecture aimed to enhance the understanding of students and faculty regarding the complete journey of a drug from laboratory conceptualization to patient consumption while effectively bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world pharmaceutical practice.
Objectives
• To understand the stages involved in drug discovery, including target identification, lead optimization, and preclinical studies.
• To familiarize participants with regulatory requirements and approval processes for new drugs.
• To discuss large scale manufacturing, quality control, and post-marketing surveillance of pharmaceutical products.
• To inspire students to appreciate the multidisciplinary efforts required in transforming a scientific idea into a marketed therapeutic product.
The event began with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Mukesh Singh Sikarwar, Deputy Director, AIP. The guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Neeti Jain, Scientist ‘F’, & Joint Director, Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on the topic “Journey of a Drug: Conceptualization to consumption.” The lecture emphasized the systematic and multidisciplinary journey of a drug from initial conceptualization and target identification in the laboratory to clinical development, regulatory approval, large-scale manufacturing, and final patient consumption. It highlighted the scientific, regulatory, ethical, and commercial considerations involved at each stage, underscoring the collaborative efforts required to transform a promising molecule into a safe, effective, and accessible therapeutic product. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Neeraj Mishra and Dr. Rajeev Shrama, and organized under the leadership of Dr. Manoj Kumar Mishra, Director and Principal and Prof. Dr. Mukesh Singh Sikarwar, Deputy Director, AIP. The event was aligned with UN SDG-4 (Quality Education) and SDG-9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and was supported by the Amity Innovation Incubator Cell, Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
