Long distance macro-molecular signalling in plants: Impact on growth, defence and yield

event

Developmental Biology of Plants

Dr. Anjan Banerjee Dean of Research and Development at IISER Pune visited Amity University Haryana on the 26thApril 2022 evening; he was accommodated at Amity University Haryana. On 27th, he presented his research seminar at the D-Block conference room at 11.20. He interacted with students and faculty. He also interacted with MSc 1st year students and motivated them. The objective of the event is to hear the recent developments in the field of long-distance communication in plants.

The talk was focussed on the role of long-distance transport of macromolecules (RNA-protein complex) from the arial part to the subterranean part in potato. In potato, the signal for shifting from vegetative growth to tuber formation is the duration of day-light. When theplants are grown in short-day light condition, mRNA for a specific transcription factor is complexed with a protein, and transported via the vascular system to the subterranean part of the stem, where the mRNA is expressed and initiates tuber formation.

Total 36 students and 17 faculties attended the session.
