Webinar on Urban Flooding in Gurugram Experiences and Initiatives

Amity School Earth and Environmental Sciences Organized online lecture on Urban Flooding in Gurugram Experiences and Initiatives on 6th September 2021.

The main objective of the webinar was to discuss the core reasons behind the problem of flooding in Gurugram and to look after few efforts in the direction to mitigate the impacts of flooding.

Prof. Dr. Padmakali Banerjee, Pro- Vice Chancellor,  Amity University Gurugram, emphasized on the importance of infrastructure management in Urban Planning. Secondly, she spoke about the important role of policy and governance. Lastly, She explained about the importance of Educational Awareness so that the issue can be dealt with proper planning.

Sh. Sanjay Kumar, District Town Planner, Department of Town & Country Planning cited that we don’t grow when things are easy; we grow when we face challenges. He cleared the fact that with rapid urbanisation in Gurugram, the natural drainage pattern of the city got disrupted and replacing the same man-made drains is taking times.

Sh. Shubhash Yadav, Head, Urban Environment Division, GMDA, also spoke about the reasons for flooding: Unplanned Urbanization, choking of drainage channels by construction/encroachments and climate change.
