Amity Institute of Clinical Psychology (AICP), AUH, in collaboration with Civil Hospital Gurugram, organized a significant "Society Outreach Program - Mental Health Awareness Programme" on August 11th, 2023. The event aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues within the community. The program featured a distinguished expert, Mr. Sachin, a Clinical Psychologist from Civil Hospital Gurugram, along with AUH faculty members Dr. Mehfooz Ahmad, Ms. Shirley Raj, and Ms. Aarti Shukla, who organized and contributed as speakers.
The day-long event took place at the Poly Clinic in Sector 31, Gurugram, and included participation from M. Phil Clinical Psychology trainees, PDCP trainees, patients, and the organizing team. Dr. Mehfooz Ahmad led the coordination of the program. The discussions centered around fundamental concepts related to stress, depression, and schizophrenia, shedding light on these psychological issues that affect many individuals within society.
Two skits were performed by the trainees, focusing on alcohol addiction and Panic Disorder. These skits served as effective tools to convey important messages and insights to the participants. The event emphasized the importance of sharing the knowledge acquired during the program with their respective communities, encouraging an attitude of awareness and understanding. A strong emphasis was placed on the need to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health issues.
The program also highlighted that with appropriate social support, financial assistance, a positive mindset, and proper treatment, recovery from mental illness is attainable. The discussions delved into prevention strategies, including sensitization and psychoeducation, aiming to equip the attendees with tools to recognize and address mental health challenges.
