Emergence of Manufacturing Sector in India Post ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’

‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ is a weapon launched by the Government of India to fight the economic (slowdown) battle, which happened due to the pandemic. In this project, the prime focus of the government will be on those industries that have the potential to create self-reliance, generate employment and reap long-term economic and social benefits. ‘AatmanirbharBharat’, therefore, has come to imply the transition from Made in India to Made by India.

For India to become truly self-reliant, efforts must be made to not replicate the global work patterns that don’t sit well with the traditional way of life in India. Also, it should be ensured that from raw material to the final production, the country relies only on its own resources. ‘Make in India’ would mean that global companies in India do not make the product, but from scratch to the finish any product will be locally made and delivered. As a part of this endeavour, industrial cluster upgradation will be done through challenge mode in states, 3,376 industrial parks and SEZs in 5 lakh hectares will be mapped on Industrial Information System. These reforms will affect the commercial value pertaining to coal, minerals, defence, civil aviation, power distribution companies in union territories, space and atomic energy.

Academics can play a key role in transforming India as proposed by the concept of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. Amity University believes that the interface of corporate and industry is the major vehicle of change in the development of Indian economy and societal wellbeing. In order to achieve the reforms in the above sectors, we have an Industry Advisory Board for the engineering stream (Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Electronics & Communication & Electrical and Electronics). The board is comprising of professionals from reputed industries, consultancies, R&D sector and the alumni. The board is a platform for knowledge generation and transfer and for the development of mutual relationship between both industry and academia, while bridging the gap between the two. Our focus is on improving our syllabi as per the needs of industries and developing future relationship with the industry. Such interactions ensure that the university receives opportunity for student’s summer training, internships and placements to enhance the skills that are required in the commercial set-ups to fulfill the requirement of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’.

We are preparing students for employment that exists today as well as will be in the demand in the future.
