Seminar on “Aquatic Entomology in Forensic Science: Applications in Death Investigation” by ASAS

A seminar on “Aquatic Entomology in Forensic Science: Applications in Death Investigation” was organized by the Locard Forensic Club, Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Forensic Sciences (CBFS), Amity School of Applied Sciences (ASAS), Amity University Haryana, on 01 April 2026. The session focused on the role of aquatic insects in forensic investigations, particularly in determining post-mortem submersion intervals in water-related death cases. It provided students with valuable insights into the application of biological evidence in forensic science.

The primary aim of the seminar was to enhance students’ understanding of aquatic entomology and its significance in forensic investigations. It also sought to develop analytical and investigative skills by familiarizing students with decomposition processes, differences between terrestrial and aquatic entomology, and proper techniques for collection, handling, and preservation of entomological evidence.

The session was delivered by Dr. Jyoti Dalal, who explained the scientific principles of entomology and its forensic applications in detail. She highlighted how insect activity aids in estimating time since death and emphasized the importance of accurate evidence handling in investigations. The seminar enhanced students’ conceptual clarity, encouraged scientific thinking, and provided practical insights into real-world forensic scenarios, making it both informative and academically enriching.
