Research Seminar on Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii Hemoglobins and Its Reduction Partners

On 10th November 2022, the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Forensic Sciences (ASAS), Amity University Gurugram, organised a research seminar on ‘Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii Hemoglobins and Its Reduction Partners’. The seminar was coordinated Dr. Dipti Vaya, Associate Professor, AUH. The guest speaker was Dr. Manish Shandilya, Assistant Professor, Department of Biochemistry (ASAS), AUH. A total of 39 participants, including 3 faculties, were present at the seminar.

The presentation started with an introduction to Hemoglobins and their functions. The activities of Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii Hemoglobin in the body and its reduction for research were explained to the students. Then the speaker discussed membrane association and phylogenetic analysis. Students learned the significance of reduction strategies in research findings and their necessity for cloning, expression, and purification.

Students learned about the Docking analysis and several reduction partners that can be used in research. The speaker talked about his own experiences, the challenges he encountered while doing research, and how he retrieved and examined a crystal. They also studied spectroscopy and observed the three-dimensional architectures of their haemoglobin. They gained knowledge of words like "docking," "cloning," and "photolysis," as well as the significance of research effort.
