Amity Business School organized a management development program on Data visualization between 17th July - 21st July 2023

The objectives of a data visualization program using Power BI are centered around leveraging the capabilities of Power BI to transform raw data into insightful and interactive visualizations. Here are some key objectives of such a program:

Data Exploration: Enable users to explore and analyze data from various sources using Power BI's intuitive interface, allowing them to gain valuable insights and identify patterns, trends, and outliers.

Data Integration: Integrate data from multiple sources and formats into Power BI, providing a unified view of the organization's data to facilitate comprehensive analysis and decision-making.

Dashboards: Create interactive and dynamic dashboards with Power BI, allowing users to interact with the data, filter information, and drill down to specific details for a deeper understanding of the data.

Real-time Reporting: Utilise Power BI's real-time data connectivity to enable users to access and visualize the most up-to-date information, supporting timely decision-making.

Dr. Vani welcomed the participants with a general introduction, and MDP started with an informative welcome address by the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Vikas Madhukar. The session of Dr.Monika started with an introduction to Power BI, its significance, and the need for data visualization.

On Day 1, Topics covered on Day 1: Understanding Data Visualisation, Types of Charts, and the Importance of Data Visualisation Introduction to Power BI and its advantages

On day 2, Introduction to Basic Visual Tools, the various charts were discussed as columns, areas, rows, scatters, slicers, line charts, etc.

On Day 3, Started with Power Query Editor and its use with multiple tables, data modeling, and data transformation.

On Day 4, Followed by advanced basic visual tools that include a tree map, a heat map, a slider, and more app tools such as

On day 5, The making of dashboards and report views were discussed, as was the difference between the two.

Benefits of using MDP with Power BI for Data Visualisation:

  • Data Connectivity: Power BI allows you to connect to a wide range of data sources, both on-premises and in the cloud, including databases, spreadsheets, web services, and more. This ensures that you can access all relevant data from various sources and visualize it together in a unified dashboard.
  • Data Transformation: Before visualization, data often requires cleaning and transformation. Power BI provides data preparation tools to shape and model data, allowing you to create accurate visualizations based on trustworthy information.
  • Interactive Visualisations: Power BI offers a plethora of visualization options like charts, graphs, maps, and custom visuals that can be interactively explored by end-users. This interactivity enhances the user experience and helps in better understanding the data.
  • Real-time Insights: With Power BI's ability to connect to real-time data streams, you can create dashboards and reports that refresh dynamically to display the most up-to-date information. This feature enables users to monitor business performance in real time and make faster decisions.
  • Collaboration and Sharing: Power BI facilitates easy sharing and collaboration of reports and dashboards with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients. The platform allows you to publish reports securely and share them via email, web embeds, or the Power BI service.
  • Mobile Accessibility: Power BI offers native mobile apps for iOS and Android, enabling users to access and interact with reports and dashboards on their smartphones and tablets. This mobile accessibility ensures that critical information is available on the go.
  • Data Security: MDP with Power BI prioritizes data security and compliance. You can implement role-based access control, encryption, and other security features to safeguard sensitive information.

A total of 55 students and eight faculties attended the session.
