Amity Institute of Clinical Psychology, Amity Uniiversity Gurugram organized a Society Outreach Program on the occasion of World Mental Health Day, at Fakharpur Village, near Panchgaon, on 10th October, 2023. The theme for the event was “Prevention and Treatment of Mental Illness in the Community.” The program focused on addressing mental health issues in the local community.
The program considered the current situation from a social and psychological perspective, offering insights into prevention strategies like sensitization and psychoeducation. Topics covered during the program included an overview of mental health in the village, causal models of stress, coping with alcohol addiction, and models for positive mental health and prevention. A strong emphasis was placed on practical and service-oriented aspects of community mental health. Role-play activities were used as a practical approach to understanding mental health issues in the community. The program was attended by a diverse group of participants, consisting of 34 students including M. Phil Clinical Psychology trainees, PDCP students, and nursing students, 9 faculty and 19 community members, which was coordinated by Dr. Mehfooz Ahmed.
In summary, the one-day Community Mental Health program organized by AICP was a comprehensive effort to address mental health issues within the local community, emphasizing early identification, prevention, and practical support for individuals' mental well-being. It brought together a diverse group of participants to work collectively towards this important cause.
