A Workshop on “Skill Enhancement for Treatment of Dementia in Geriatric Population” was organised by AICP on 17th june 2026. The workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of psychology trainees and faculty members in understanding, assessing, and managing dementia among the geriatric population.
It sought to provide comprehensive insights into the signs, symptoms, etiology, risk factors, assessment, rehabilitation, and intervention strategies for dementia while emphasizing the importance of early identification, prevention, psychoeducation, and community awareness. The programme also aimed to strengthen participants' understanding of caregiver concerns, promote a stigma-free approach toward individuals living with dementia, and encourage service-oriented practices that support healthy ageing and improved quality of life.
The workshop on "Skill Enhancement for Treatment of Dementia in Geriatric Population" successfully achieved its objectives by equipping participants with a deeper understanding of dementia and its psychological, clinical, and social dimensions. The sessions provided valuable knowledge on the identification, assessment, rehabilitation, and management of dementia, while highlighting the significance of early intervention, psychoeducation, community sensitization, and caregiver support. Interactive discussions and the sharing of clinical experiences enriched participants' practical learning and reinforced the importance of adopting a multidisciplinary and compassionate approach to dementia care. Overall, the programme strengthened participants' professional competencies and encouraged them to contribute towards dementia awareness, stigma reduction, and the promotion of holistic care for the elderly within the community.
